Review of Casa Havana Particular
A Casa Particular Booking Service
I made room reservations on a few different Casa Particular booking websites (A "Casa Particular" is essentially a hostel) so that I would "qualify" for the people-to-people program for authorized travel to Cuba. In 2016, it's a bad idea to backpack in Cuba due to the scarcity of rooms available. In fact, you'll be extremely lucky to find a room if you don't already have one. You may even see a few tourists sleeping in the park or a taxi during high-season because their room was overbooked or they thought they could backpack like in most other countries.
We choose a nice casa in Old Havana several months in advance and we received frequent reservation confirmation requests from people at the booking website. We were comforted to receive one just 1 day before we set out to Havana.
Arrival in Havana
The booking company stated a taxi would be waiting for us but if they were not there, we should just get our own. The taxi was not there.

Arrival at Casa Particular
We got our own taxi, np, and headed to the casa. Upon arrival, the hostess looked confused to see two American's showing up at their door. It was only about 6 or 7 pm so I wasn't sure if we were late or if we had the wrong house. I was informed no room was available and there had been some mix-up. Even with confirmation emails in hand from just a day earlier, they had no reservation for us. The hostess walked me to another Casa a few blocks away and asked if the host there if they had a room available, they did and thankfully it was in a good location in Old Havana.
Customer Service at CasaHavanaParticular.com
Oddly, CasaHavanaParticular.com never contacted us or followed up about our experience. Casa Particulars are a wonderful experiences but I do not recommend casahavanaparticular.com due to their poor customer service.
Other casa booking sites that I had much better experiences with are:
