A Casa Particular Booking Service

2 / 5

I made room reservations on a few different Casa Particular booking websites (A "Casa Particular" is essentially a hostel) so that I would "qualify" for the people-to-people program for authorized travel to Cuba. In 2016, it's a bad idea to backpack in Cuba due to the scarcity of rooms available. In fact, you'll be extremely lucky to find a room if you don't already have one. You may even see a few tourists sleeping in the park or a taxi during high-season because their room was overbooked or they thought they could backpack like in most other countries.

We choose a nice casa in Old Havana several months in advance and we received frequent reservation confirmation requests from people at the booking website. We were comforted to receive one just 1 day before we set out to Havana.

Arrival in Havana

The booking company stated a taxi would be waiting for us but if they were not there, we should just get our own. The taxi was not there.

Arrival at Casa Particular

We got our own taxi, np, and headed to the casa. Upon arrival, the hostess looked confused to see two American's showing up at their door. It was only about 6 or 7 pm so I wasn't sure if we were late or if we had the wrong house. I was informed no room was available and there had been some mix-up. Even with confirmation emails in hand from just a day earlier, they had no reservation for us. The hostess walked me to another Casa a few blocks away and asked if the host there if they had a room available, they did and thankfully it was in a good location in Old Havana.

Customer Service at CasaHavanaParticular.com

Oddly, CasaHavanaParticular.com never contacted us or followed up about our experience. Casa Particulars are a wonderful experiences but I do not recommend casahavanaparticular.com due to their poor customer service.

Other casa booking sites that I had much better experiences with are:

  • mycasaparticular.com
  • mycasaincuba.com

  1. We have just returned from an amazing trip in Cuba. Our travel and some of our accomodation was organised by casahavanaparticular.com [book@casahavanaparticular.com] who did an amazing job for us. We were met by one of his drivers at the airport and taken to Casa Aurora & Julio which Ivett in casahavanaparticular.com had arranged. It is right on Old Havana and was amazing. Very easy to walk to all the main sites from here. We had all the rooms (there are 2) and they are all large and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing every day. Our top restaurants were Dona Eutimia which is hard to find but just off the cathedral square (if you're looking at the cathedral it's at the opposite end of the square down a little ally to the left. It's amazing. We also liked Castropol which is on the Malecon number 107 - ate there twice. Also had some dreadful meals and were conned into buying some expensive drinks. But LOVED the city. After 3 nights CasaHavanaParticular driver took us to Trinidad (about 4 hours). Here we stayed at CASA BENAVENTE. This was fantastic. The casa is really well situated for walking to the main sites. Trinidad was wonderful - NOT TO BE MISSED on a tour of Cuba. No restaurant stood out but we had a good evening at the tapas place just to the right of the steps where the evening samba is held. Trinidad has such a lovely feel to it. We also went to the beach for a few hours. After 4 nights we were driven to Santa Clara we stayed 1 with in CASA LA ARAGONESA, Milaydys (the owner) prepare for us and delicious lobsters before to leave we visit Che Guevarra Memorial. The next day we were driven to Cayo Santa Maria - how fantastic was that!!!! Beaches amazing, pools amazing, food pretty good, rooms lovely etc etc. The all inclusive cocktails were incredible. The bar staff come up the beach to ask you what you want - it's heaven!! Make sure you book to go to the restaurants as the buffet can get a bit tiring. We had 3 nights there and then we were driven back to Havana for 2 night at Casa Colonial Sofia en Vedado before flying back to the Germany. Nice Colonial house very well location in Havana. We spend with Maby a nice stay. Altogether an amazing trip. (Thank for CasaHavanaParticular.com staff for organize for us this unforgettable vacation in Cuba)
